Vision Plan for
West Case Park
About This Project
Columbus Recreation and Parks Department acquired the OSU Agriculture Extension Sheep Farm at 2425 West Case Road for a new community park at the end of 2019. The 58-acre site will become one of the major greenspaces in northwest Columbus. The parkland has a wide range of possibilities—from sports to hiking to nature to special programming—all within a short walk of more than 6,000 residents.
The planning and design process for West Case Park is thorough and holistic. It begins with including the Goals and Mission already identified by Columbus Recreation and Parks Department as a baseline, and the department will seek the input from as many residents and stakeholders as possible. As we gather ideas and needs identified by the community, we will also be looking at the natural character of the land and its surroundings, developing concepts for the park design, refining those concepts and analyzing funding resources. Finally, the development of a complete vision plan will guide a multi-phased development of a great community park!
The property currently contains several farm buildings, including a two-story brick home and five barn structures. Some mature trees provide shade and beauty in the northwest corner of the site and along the perimeter. The rest of the site is predominantly open pasture, serving as a reminder of the site’s former use as a sheep farm. A mix of residential developments border the site along the east, south and west property lines. To the north, separated by West Case Road, is The Ohio State University Don Scott Airport. Columbus Recreation and Parks Department’s Carriage Place Community Center sits within close proximity to the site, and there is a desire to strengthen the connection between these two facilities.
